The Todos Santos Contest

Posted in Friends, Surfboarding Photos/Videos and Media by Derek Dunfee on March 2, 2010

The Todos Santos contest went off this past weekend!! the waves were pumping, in the 20 foot range, and there was an allstar cast to surf it. It was truly an honor to surf with all my heros and to be apart of such a special experience. there was no prize purse, so this contest was all about having fun and surfing with friends.  It was some of the most exciting days of my life, and i cant thank greg long and gary linden enough for all of their hard work. gary and greg put in so much time into making this contest happen, and it showed in this incredible contest. I lost in my first heat, but it was a priceless experience. Hats off to Mark Healy for winning the comp, he is long overdue for a big contest win. Mark is one of the hardest charging surfers i know, and i couldnt be happier for his win.

I brought my brother taylor down to mexico, and he shot of lot of photos and videos,

here are some photos and frame grabs from the trip:

The drive down to mexico for this big wave comp was horrific, pouring rain with no visiblity , crashes and numerous warning phone calls about a possible ‘tsunami’, made it quite a nervous drive.

Thats not a tasmanian devil, thats a car driving through a puddle on the other side of the road.

The competitor meeting

My brother taylor, He was broke, so i told him id pay for everything if he came with me. Here he is 8 beers deep with a Caddilac margarita and the fresh fish plate dinner. Im happy taylor came down to support me.

    Derek,
Congratulations on getting in the event! I’m not sure how the scoring took place, but you had one excellent wave for sure. It is inspiring to see you going after it out there. The conditions were bumby and kinda all over. One more good one and you advance, huh? You surfed really well, be proud. Keep Rock’n!
